Founded in 2016, the Butchertown Business Alliance (BBA) was created to unify, support, and promote businesses and nonprofit organizations in the Butchertown neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky.
The BBA was founded by a group of dedicated business leaders and community advocates, including:
Andy Blieden – Property owner and developer of Butchertown Market
Jessica Loving – Public relations and marketing consultant
John Cliff – Plant manager at JBS Louisville
Linda Schuster – Owner of QtheAgency
Their mission was clear: to give Butchertown a unified voice — politically, economically, and culturally.
“The whole idea is to be more proactive,” said co-founder Andy Blieden. “The Business Alliance helps support great initiatives like the Butchertown soccer stadium. We want to continue driving positive economic development while managing the neighborhood's growth.”
Butchertown is a neighborhood with a unique character and a vibrant business scene. But it lacked a formal representation within the broader Louisville community. The BBA was formed to:
Represent Butchertown businesses to local government and regulatory agencies
Advocate for economic development while preserving the neighborhood’s character
Create opportunities for businesses to connect, collaborate, and thrive
Serve as a centralized voice for business interests and concerns
“It’s an awesome neighborhood. We’ve got a vibe,” said Blieden. “The Business Alliance is just a means to provide leadership and proactivity to the shared goals and vision of the businesses.”
Since its founding, the BBA has:
Planted over 100 trees
Completed 5 large-scale mural projects
Raised more than $50,000 for local nonprofits, including:
Hildegard House
Family Community Clinic
Feed Louisville
Through collaboration and strategic advocacy, the BBA continues to elevate Butchertown as one of Louisville’s most dynamic and inclusive neighborhoods.
